Science
At St Mary’s Church of England Primary, we make science an exciting part of everyday learning. Through practical investigations, careful observation, and age-appropriate explanations, children build curiosity and develop skills such as asking questions, making predictions, and recording findings. We encourage children to talk about what they notice, use scientific vocabulary with confidence, and learn how evidence helps us understand the world around us.
Our science curriculum supports children to grow in both knowledge and understanding. Lessons are designed to link learning to real-life experiences, helping pupils recognise patterns in nature, explore materials and forces, and develop an awareness of how science contributes to health, safety, and the environment. We work closely with families to reinforce learning at home, so children can continue to explore, experiment, and take pride in their progress as they move through primary school.
In 2026, we were awarded with the Primary Science Quality Mark at GILT level accreditation, which acknowledges the high standard of Science teaching in our school. We are very proud of the achievements of our staff, children and particularly our Science Lead, Miss Davis.
