E-Safety

At St Mary’s Church of England Primary, we want to help keep your child safe online. E-safety means understanding how children use devices and apps, knowing the risks that can happen, and working together as a school and family to reduce those risks. Most online experiences are positive, but it is important that children learn safe habits early.

For primary-age children, key risks include seeing inappropriate content, sharing personal information, and being contacted by strangers through games or social media. Some children may also come across bullying or unkind behaviour online, or be encouraged to spend money in games. We teach pupils to recognise when something feels wrong, to stop and tell a trusted adult, and to report concerns straight away.

Parents can support this by setting clear rules for screen time, using privacy and parental controls where available, and checking what your child is accessing. Encourage your child to keep communication within age-appropriate platforms and to never share passwords, full names, addresses, or school details.
