R.E.
At St Mary’s Church of England Primary, R.E. helps children understand and explore the beliefs, values and practices of Christianity and other world faiths. Through age-appropriate learning, children build knowledge about key stories, symbols and traditions, while also developing respect for difference and an understanding of how faith can shape people’s lives. Lessons encourage curiosity, thoughtful discussion and reflection, helping pupils to make links between what they learn and the world around them.
Our R.E. curriculum supports children in developing skills such as asking questions, expressing ideas clearly and listening to others. Parents can expect learning that is engaging, inclusive and rooted in the Christian character of our school, while also celebrating diversity within our community. By the end of each stage, pupils will be able to talk about beliefs and practices, explain why they matter to individuals and communities, and consider moral and ethical choices in everyday situations.
Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. If you would like to discuss this or are considering withdrawing your child, please contact the Headteacher so that we can explain how RE is taught at St Mary’s and discuss your request with you.
