Foundation Stage - Robins & Bramblings
As part of our focus on healthy eating, we had a visit from ASDA Pete who showed us how to prepare a healthy stir fry which coincided with the Chinese New Year celebrations! We had lots of fun learning about how the holiday is celebrated around the world and we really enjoyed finding out which animal represented us in the Chinese Zodiac.
Through their independent learning, the children have shown a real interest in creating their own café and restaurant role play and this inspired us to create our own Foundation Stage restaurant. The children have been busy making cakes, designing flower arrangements, practicing their waiting skills and deciding upon a name. The week paid off with parents and relatives visiting the restaurant and the children displayed impeccable manners and etiquette. We are very proud of all of them.
We have done lots of investigating in Foundation Stage! They have been amazing at coming up with their own investigations and experiments. They have been exploring the properties of different objects and categorising them into hard and soft, rolling and non-rolling, floating and sinking, magnetic and non-magnetic materials. Perhaps you can carry out your own investigation at home?
The children were very excited by the appearance of snow and hail this week and we couldn’t resist going outside and exploring it. We talked about ice and how it is made which inspired us to make our own ice by placing water in different places around the school.
This week, the children have been learning about keeping healthy and the many ways they can do this. They have been making (and eating!) fruity faces, learning how to cut fruit safely and washing up after themselves. To keep their bodies fit and strong, the children have taken part in their own circuit training. We discussed which activities tired us out the most and why it is important to warm up before exercising.
We have all been getting into the festive spirit! The children did a fantastic job in their Nativity play, showing great confidence and voices.
They have also been painting Christmas pots, making Christmas cards and writing letters to Santa. Merry Christmas everybody!
We have been exploring Music and Art in Foundation Stage. The children have been listening to music and responding with artwork, personally and in groups. We have been drawing our musical conversations and discussing how different music makes us feel.
We have been learning all about Diwali and the story of Rama, Sita and the ten-headed demon! The children have been creating their own Rangoli patterns and painting each other’s hands with Mendhi designs. The children made Diwa lamps out of clay and we then lit the Diwa lamps and reenacted walking back from the forest from the Rama and Sita story.
Having learnt about different types of bridges, the children went on a walk to see the two Bideford bridges. They identified different shapes, textures and materials and discussed which bridge was the longest and which was the tallest!
The children have been enjoying different versions of the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and building our own bridges! The children tested their bridges with toy people, animals and cars.
The children are continuing to settle well in their new classes and have been having lots of fun exploring numbers, shapes and textures. They have loved experimenting with different objects and tools and they definitely love getting messy!
We have had a lovely first few weeks settling in together. The children have been fantastic learning all the new school routines and expectations.
We have been very proud of them all.
